Koffi Annan
Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate
He will be truly missed…
Kofi Annan was a global statesman and a deeply committed internationalist who fought throughout his life for a fairer and more peaceful world. During his distinguished career and leadership of the United Nations he was an ardent champion of peace, sustainable development, human rights and the rule of law.
After stepping down from the United Nations, he continued to work tirelessly in the cause of peace through his chairmanship of the Kofi Annan Foundation and as chair of The Elders, the group founded by Nelson Mandela. He was an inspiration to young and old alike.
In his tenure at the United Nations, Mr. Annan inspired the world’s top business leaders to join governments in lifting the poorest nations out of poverty by adopting a more responsible and sustainable approach to business and created the UN Global Compact asking nan corporate leaders to publicly commit to Ten Principles based on UN agreements in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.
Holiday Inn Dubai – Al Barsha (HIAB) proudly abides to the following Sustainability Development Goals of UNGC’s (SDGs) as created by Kofi Annan by embedding its sustainability strategies with its business practices trying to uphold the following SDG’s in particular:

HIAB is a patron for an NGO – “An Advent for Building human Capital” (abc) which provides free education – “English for Hospitality Professionals” to the unemployed in Islamabad, Delhi and Dubai, aiding their growth through employment.
SDG2 End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition.
We support United Nations World Food Programme (UN WFP) in furthering their mandate of zero hunger in the world, through dedicated initiatives through our registered body ‘Loves You Campaign’. SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
Wellness at work is promoted through sports competitions, encouragement to walk stairs instead of elevators through benefit posters, yoga classes, and dedicated exercise time.
SDG 5: Achieve gender parity and empower women and girls to be equal partners to men.
We uphold Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) ensuring there is gender parity in all the departments, ensuring hiring is equivocal, salaries and benefits are equal as per grading of job/designation/positions with equal treatment for both male and female.
SDG 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water.
To ensure clean water for staff and guests we use ‘Reverse osmosis’ water dispensers – a new drinking water solution – so plastic water bottles that are a health hazard in extreme temperatures are replaced, allowing fresh water quality.
SDG 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth and decent work for all.
We promote a strict work Culture called “Way of Life” upholding strong values: Do the right thing, Show we care, Aim high, Work Better Together, Celebrate Difference. Strict policies are in place exercising zero tolerance for any violation. We promote growth within or externally by providing equivocal training. We strictly adhere to UAE labour law for benefits
